In Connecticut, two physicians have had their licenses to practice medicine suspended.  Dr. Carl Schiano had his license suspended lied to his patients about the status of their records, stole from two former patients, and destroyed medical records.

Schiano had had a prior license suspension in 2006 for drug abuse, writing prescriptions for family members, and providing negligent, incompetent care to at least four patients, state records show.

The Medical Examining Board also suspended the license of a second doctor, radiologist Carolyn McDonald, who lives in Florida. She allegedly concealed on her Connecticut license renewal application in 2011 that she had had a substance-abuse-related revocation in Minnesota and a suspension in California. McDonald, who practices medicine in the U.S. Veterans Affairs health care system, is also licensed in New York and Pennsylvania. Those states have yet to take action against her license.

In our own state of New Hampshire, two doctors had their medical licenses suspended last month. 

According to the New Hampshire Board of Medicine website, the Board "approved a Settlement Agreement for Michael J. O'Connell, M.D. Dr. O'Connell has agreed to a permanent voluntary surrender of his license to practice to avoid further delay and expense of proceedings arising out of the certain allegations regarding improper relationships with former patients.

The Board of Medicine issued an Order of Emergency Suspension and Notice of Hearing. The Board has received information indicating that the continued practice of medicine by Dr. Weinreb presently poses an imminent threat to life, safety and/or health, which warrants the temporary suspension of Dr. Weinreb license to practice medicine pending a hearing that is scheduled for February 1, 2012."
